In multimodal writing xxx we have been working an assignment of creating a video telling the stories of the refugees staying here in RI. My group focused on Clement Shabani from the Democratic Republic of Congo. In the following text I will be explaining the process we went through in producing this video such as conducting the interview, the research, the technological process or editing, and my reflection of the entire process. I feel that our class learned a lot from this entire process and I would like to share with you what I have learned.
Conducting an interview
Prior to the interview the groups had to learn about how to tell as story, we read a chapter from our book called _______. From this we learned, needing the attention of readers, ________________. We also had to learn proper educate about conducting an interview especially on something that may be a sore subject for the interviewees. We had a class period to talk to two refugees who came to help us understand what we should ask and how we should ask it when conducting out interviews. They mentioned instances they had experienced when being interviewed and how they would have liked them to go differently. They taught us that it is not right to call their lives and their experiences a story because that’s not what it is. They also told us to be respectful and patient if the interviewee gets emotional, not to try to sympathize with their experience because it can be taken the wrong way if we have not expedited something of that nature and cant fully understand.
Research: what we needed to know
Before conducting our interview our group decided we needed to do research on where clement was from and learn more about the conflict there. We proceeded to find a few articles on the conflict and learned how it started and learned more about the current situation there and why families had to leave.
Interview draft.
We had the advantage of viewing a video of clement and his wife speaking publicly prior to meeting him. From this we learned that he is a well-educated man who knows his experience and knows what he wants to share. We figured that we would be able to ask very vague question and he would kind of take the question and run with it. Our interview question were.___________.
Technology
After conducting an hour and twenty minute video we then had to decide what we thought were the most important part.
